Full Name: Phyllis ‘Phyl’ Emily Meekley (née Anderson)
Reason or meaning of name: Phyllis; leafy foliage; green bough. In Greek legend, Phyllis was changed to an almond tree after her death, and bore no leaves until her lover returned. Emily; ‘rival’. Meekly; something done mildly, humbly or submissively.
Nickname: Phyl, Philly, Phineus, Petal (from Andrew), Red (from Negan).
Reason for nickname: These were pet names, or names that were used to annoy her. Phyl stuck around, as she dislikes her name. It was her maternal grandmother, who was an awful woman.
Birthdate: November 3rd, 1984
Astrological Sign: Scorpio.
Strengths: Loyal. Passionate. Resourceful. Observant. Dynamic.
Weaknesses: Jealous. Obsessive. Suspicious. Manipulative. Unyielding.
Favorites
Color: Pastel colors, in the theme of Easter.
Music: Peggy Lee, specifically Johnny Guitar, He’s A Tramp, Why Don’t You Do Right – jazz in that vein.
Food: Greens, things that she has grown herself. She was mostly vegetarian before, with only fish as her preferred meat. She will eat what she can nowadays.
Literature: None.
Expressions: “Don’t make me cross my heart.”
Book: Jane Austen, because it was required reading in school. Otherwise Phyl is inclined towards books on business, marketing, and how to network.
Quote: “When you know what a man wants you know who he is, and how to move him.”
Expletives: Jesus, Lord, Damn, something in the vein of religion. Phyl is disinclined to swear unless there is a good reason.
Mode of transportation: A bicycle, unless it’s a luxurious car. She has a soft spot for a good car.
Habits
Smokes: Sometimes.
What? Cigarettes, as that’s all that is on offer. She used to grow her own weed, privately, but there are few facilities for that now.
How often? Regular cigarettes are smoked whenever she has them, with a limit of once per day, if that. Anything more than simple tobacco, she hasn’t had access to it, and isn’t out to acquire.
Drinks: Sometimes.
What? Ciders and light spirits, with whiskey and scotch a close second. It is really more about what she has access to, but she will ultimately go for a wine if its available.
How often? Infrequent; if its provided.
Worst bad habit? Finishing others’ sentences; speaking out of turn too easily; inclined to be a people pleaser at all times; know-it-all and likes to make it known; disinclined to recognize nasty behavior towards herself; self-destructive in her love life choices, where she is sure she’s ‘in control’; too arrogant to know when to quit.
Quirks: Loves plants; loves making jokes; loves kids; loves poking the bear until it bites; will clean if left to her own devices; likes to provide; will try to collect things into neat arrangements; will straighten out clothes or hair without thought.
Childhood
Hometown: Glennville, Georgia.
Type of childhood: Unremarkable, in that Phyl played in the garden most days. She was happy, and healthy, and had no great gain or loss.
First memory: Phyl learned how to use her thumbnail to cut into the stem of a flower, and in turn learned how to make a flower crown. She can’t remember her exact age, but she always had some form of flowers tucked onto her from that point on. Most photos corroborated this.
Most important childhood event that still affects him: The death of her grandmother.
Why? Phyllis Snr. was a controlling woman, who would impose her traditional values onto her granddaughter. It was a weekly struggle to look her best, to make sure Gran didn’t berate her. When she was nine, her grandmother passed away, and the flower business that she largely owned and operated was put onto her mother, Allie. Allie and Dylan worked in the store regardless, but with the shift in ownership came the shift of responsibility. They ended up spending more of their time there, to the point where they moved into the small house beside it when it went up for sale. That was slowly incorporated into the flower store, and in turn Phyllis had the florist attached to her childhood home, and eventually it would stand to be her only place of solace.
Lower education: Proceeded through to high school, graduated at a reasonable GPA.
Book smart or street smart? Book smart.
Religion: Christian.
Firsts
Job: At her family business, tending to the till, and watering whatever plants needed watering. She would prune and prep and perfect the arrangements, though it was her grandmother’s (and subsequently her mother’s) store. She began doing this around the age of six, though it became an official job when she hit thirteen.
Kiss: Phyl was fourteen, at a party. It was with Ethan, who would become her husband.
Sexual experience: Ethan again, this time at the age of sixteen. She may have been a touch lit, as had he, but she didn’t regret it.
Usual Appearance.
Age: 34.
How old does s/he appear?: Phyl appears the correct age, perhaps slightly older to the effects of the apocalypse. She is still normally light and smiling, but there is definite wear to her.
Eye Color: Grey-blue. All depends on what dress she’s wearing, and what eye shadow she has to match it.
Glasses or contacts? Neither. She has very good vision, though she operates better at a micro level. Phyl is used to focusing on her work, and what is in front of her. She finds it difficult to see very far distances.
Hair color: Orange-red, depending on the season. Her hair is very susceptible to change based on how much sunlight she gets (or does not get, as it happens).
Distinguishable hair feature: Light and floaty. It’s always trying to get into her face, and surrounding her features.
Type of hair: Wavy when left untouched, but tends to go flatter with time. She tries to keep it washed and clean.
Typical hairstyle: Up-dos, down, whatever she feels on the day. She won’t do pigtails, and she’ll avoid high ponytails. Loose, out hair is usually reserved for when she’s relaxing, and if she’s out, it’ll be up and away from her face.
Height: 5’ 3".
Weight: 130lbs, she thinks.
Type of body/build: Slim, but athletic. Phyl did cheer leading during her highschool years, and maintained that through yoga. She was fit before the outbreak, and has since become very fit. She is not predisposed to being muscular, and her form is not especially defined, but she has decent core strength. She has small hands and feet, and nothing about her build stands out in particular.
Nationality: American.
Skin tone: Peachy-pale with freckles. She has a bit of tan to her arms and cheeks, but otherwise even.
Skin type: Soft, worn on her hands and feet from all the travel and work. She has tougher hands than anywhere else,
Shape of face: Round.
Distinguishing Marks? None.
Scars? A lot of small ones, from slips of her secateurs and her straightener. Nowadays, she has more bumps and scrapes across her than she can list, so it’s hard to specify which scar came from where. She hasn’t sustained any major wounds as of yet.
Most predominant feature: Round face. Wild eyes. Attentive smile. Slim shoulders. Always looking up.
Resembles: Amy Adams; her mother.
Accent: America, Georgian, southern - lazy with enunciation, as people are in the region. She has a habit of speaking a little too quickly, and saying too much, but this is often used to cover lies as much as it spills truths.
Is she healthy? Phyl frequently went for jogs through her area, and played basketball until she was seventeen. She is physically fit, and did small bits of cardio and flexibility training (for vain reasons). Now, she is resilient, and hasn’t suffered too much in the wake of the zombies. She has been malnourished, and dehydrated, but that’s the lay of the land now.
Physical disabilities: None.
Physical abilities: TBA.
Mother: Allison ‘Allie’ Anderson (née Sanders)
Relationship with her: Phyl admired her mother for how similar she was to gran, without the venom or cynical outlook. Allie operated on a very logical plane, and focused on solving problems as they presented themselves. She handled the business at large, from the funerals and weddings, to the day to day arrangements. She ensured that customers were happy, and largely she can remember the days they worked together. Allie was a young mother, but never made that Phyllis’s problem.
Father: Dylan Anderson
Relationship with him: Phyl was the epitome of a daddy’s girl. He would take her to every football game, and cheer as much for the team as he did for her cheer squad. He taught her how to be observant, and how to pick out which customers were in for a funeral, and which had an anniversary. He worked as a detective, and wasn’t around as much, but when he was there, Phyl loved every minute of it.
Extended family: Pre-outbreak, Phyl was in the process of a very messy divorce. She had a very, very small family of her own, and had drifted from many of her friends. She has no direct family left, that she’s aware of.
Close to family? Parents passed away pre-outbreak; wasn’t close to Ethan’s family. She had become distant to most that she knew, as mentioned above.

Q. What’s her deal?
Phyl was conceived as an OC alongside my friend Zeke. We came up with a group who had operated throughout the two or so years since the outbreak, before they merged into the overall story. As I played her, I liked the idea of her at the Sanctuary as opposed to Alexandria, as Alexandria was too easy for her to slip into.
Phyl has spent the better part of two years as a spy, and will often turn up to a settlement weak, bruised, sad, and survey the layout. As the settlement becomes less useful to Phyl and her group, they will sap it of its resources and leave.
With Phyl at the Sanctuary, I can see her as an asset to Negan in this way. She has manipulated her way through multiple camps and settlements, and has no issue with this. She is very oriented to protect those she is close to, and those she cares deeply for. Others are a casualty she can accept.
Q. Phyl seems weak/bubbly?
I really enjoy manipulative characters, and when you can use your writing style to mask your character’s true intent. I actively write her as to appear as you expect, but there are little allusions to her inner machinations.
Additionally, I wanted to have a character in the same vein as Rosita and Carol, who relied upon a partner for a time during the outbreak. Phyl was actively created to be ‘brains without brawn’, so its intentional that she lacks survival skills.
She has a good knowledge of medicine and manipulation. She is enduring but not physically strong, and that’s how it is for her specifically.
I’ve written many different characters, but I rarely get a chance to play a genuinely physically weak character. I tend to play the stoic and strong type, or the Action Girl. I wanted to challenge myself, with a character who really cannot afford confrontation.
Q. Who’s Andrew? And Bianca?
Andrew Sterling (sirthrive) is a complimentary OC in the same vein as Phyl. He and Phyl are similar to Andrea and The Governor, but on a much smaller scale. He has larger ambitions for control and an easy life for himself, and uses Phyl as a means to manipulate information out of people.
While Phyl is out, personable, chatty, she is a spy for him. He is on a constant hunt for information, so as to better appeal to those who would be a good ally. I tend to play him through descriptions given by Phyl, of actions I have planned out on my own.
I play both Phyl and Andrew, as well as a few other characters from their group. Lisa and Bianca Puffin are also OCs of mine, who I do not have accounts for. They’re the daughter and granddaughter of Andrew respectively.
I really enjoy when characters have extended groups or networks of their own, so I and a friend constructed a group.
